Gerald Ferguson, Landscapes
09.13.2025 — 11.15.2025
The Blue Building Gallery was honoured to present Gerald Ferguson, Landscapes. The exhibition was the gallery’s first collaboration with an artist’s estate.
Gerald Ferguson (January 29, 1937 - October 8, 2009) was a much loved conceptual artist and painter who lived and taught in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Born in Cincinnati, he came to Canada in 1968 to teach at NSCAD where he taught until his retirement in 2006. Jerry, as many knew him, established the famed NSCAD Lithography Workshop (1969-79), ran the schools galleries and championed the creation of the NSCAD Press. As an artist, Ferguson was a major figure in Canada’s Conceptual art movement and was included in Information (1970) at the Museum of Modern Art. His works are held in many major public and private collections across Canada.
Landscapes featured a curated selection of painting and sculpture from Ferguson’s last body of work. In these works, Ferguson made his most direct address to place: aligning the stark and economical approaches to painting he developed as a conceptual artist with the raw and sparse beauty of Nova Scotia.
Select works remain available through the gallery. Inquire with Emily Falencki for more information.
